Bhoomi Pujan of the Centenary Building:

The Bhoomi Pujan of the Centenary Building took place on February 04, 2024, on the Occasion of the Basant Event. The Event started with the Inauguration of the Scale Model of the Campus and the Centenary Building on the Ground Floor of the Library. The Event was Graced by Chief Guest Shri P.M. Prasad, CMD CCL, Prof. J.K. Pattanayak, Director, Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Dy. Director, Prof. R. M. Bhattacharjee, Advisor IRAA, Prof. Rajeev Upadhyay, Dean IRAA, Mr. Mritunjay Sharma, AR IRAA and other Important Distinguished Alumni like Prof. S P Banerjee, Prof. D. C. Panigrahi, etc. After the Inauguration, the Scale Model, the Bhoomi Pujan took place in front of the Library Land where All the Distinguished Alumni and Faculty Members were Present. Dean IRAA Performed the Puja with Pandit Ji and laid the Foundation Stone.

Centenary Celebration and Proposed Projects Details:

IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, Originally established as Establishment of an Institution for Imparting Education in the Fields of Mining and Geology in 1926 has Undergone Considerable Expansion of its Activities, and presently it can be Considered as a Total Technology Education Institute after being Granted the Status of Indian Institute of Technology in 2016. In Order to Mark the Centenary Year, the Institute’s Wishes to Establish a state-of-the-art Auditorium and Lecture Hall Complex with the Following Requirements:

1. Site Zoning:

The Site has been Zoned with a Recreational Landscape Zone towards the South followed by the Lecture Hall Building and the Auditorium Building towards the extreme North of the Plot. The Lecture Hall Complex and Auditorium have been Designed as a Connected Structure to create Flexibility for Movement and Connection as required. The Design follows a Central Pedestrian Spine with Vehicular Movement restricted to the Periphery. The Pedestrian Spine shall be Connected to the Larger Network of Footpath and Cycle Tracks of the Campus Master Plan. The Eastern Avenue has been Designed as the Visitor Entry while the Western Road shall be Dedicated as the Service Entry. The Pedestrian Spine further extends into the Main Entrance Lobby of the Lecture Hall Complex that is Designed with a Flexibility to Connect to the Auditorium Block. Additionally, a Clock Tower has been Placed on the South-East Corner of the Site creating a Landmark to be Viewed from the Entire Campus.

2. Architecture Design:

2.1 Ground Floor- The Building Occupancy is about 4000 People when Fully Occupied, hence the Ground Floor has been Divided to create Separate Entrances for both the Lecture Hall with Internal Connectivity. This shall allow both the Facilities to Optimally Work Individually when required. The Entrance of the Lecture Hall Building has a Large Double Height Lobby with a Grand Staircase, Escalators leading to the First Level and a Centrally Located Core. The Cafeteria located Adjacent to the Lobby has been Designed such that it can Spill into the Landscape Pedestrian Plaza creating a Seamless Indoor-outdoor Experience.

The Entrance of the Auditorium Building has a Large Entrance Foyer that can Double Up as a Gathering Space that can be Served with Refreshments during Large Conferences, Convocation and other Days. The Layout has been Symmetrically Designed on the either side of the Auditorium with a Backstage Entry for Services, Performers, VIPs, etc. The Lower Level of the Auditorium and Stage can be Accessed from the Ground Floor. The Auditorium has been Designed with a 1500 Seats Capacity; 1200 Seats in the Stalls and 300 Seats in the Balcony. The Balcony may be Extended to Accommodate an Additional 200-300 Seats as required.

2.2 First Floor - The Floor has been Designed to Accommodate the Admin, Placement Cell and Examination Center on One side of the Core with a 400 Seats Tiered Lecture Hall on the Other side. The Upper Most Level of the Auditorium Stalls can be Accessed from this Level with Provision of Toilets, Projection Room and other Services.
Second & Third Floor - The Lecture Hall Building has been Designed with a Typical Layout to Accommodate Two 200 Capacity Classroom and One 400 Capacity Classroom on Each of the Floors. The Auditorium Balcony can be Accessed from the Third Floor Level.

3. MEP (In the Construction World, MEP stands for “Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing”) Services:

The Services have been Zoned by providing the AC Plant Room, Electrical Substation and Water Tank. The Transformer has been Located Centrally behind the Auditorium Foyer along the Service Road. The Infrastructure has been Designed keeping mind a Utility Tunnel below the 6 Metre wide Service Road such that all Utilities can be Plugged in easily. This shall Create Better Accessibility and Serviceability for the Future.

4. Green Building: The Building Envelop has been designed to create Natural Shading through Vertical Fins. The Building has been Designed such that the Common Areas are Naturally Ventilated and Daylighting is Optimized. The Design basis for Sustainability has been prepared with Respect to the Larger Vision of the Campus to Upgrade towards Net Zero.
